Google and other search engines are now putting a higher emphasis on sites which are secure for their customers. This means that the sites have installed and configured the right SSL certificates for their website. The SSL certificate allows customers and visitors to be sure that the site will protect them from cyber dangers such as hacking and phishing.
It is important that the SSL certificate is installed properly and set up correctly, as this will then display the address bar as https:// rather than just http://. If the site is not fully set up, it can display an error message which might make visitors leave the site or not bother trying to open it!
Search engines are increasingly prioritising websites which have the https:// at the start of their address and penalising those who do not. We certainly recommend getting your web developer to install and configure your SSL certificate sooner rather than later!
